Elizabeth Suzann Florence Pants
I finished this navy blue pair of trousers a few weeks ago. They are the Elizabeth Suzann Florence Pants. These are a wide leg, elasticated waist trouser. There are actually only 2 pattern pieces, a front leg and a back leg. The waistband is created by folding over the top of the trousers to encase the elastic.
When I finished these, I lamented the lack of pockets. I very nearly added some in-seam pockets as I was making them, but decided to just sew the pattern as intended on the first go. To rectify this, I added some patch pockets to the front legs and I actually love this addition! The pockets are just large enough for my phone, which is all I really need.
I should mention that the pattern comes in a wide size range, from XXS - 4XL and tall and petite options. I really like the extra height options, because I normally need to increase the rise in trouser patterns, but with the tall option I don’t need to make this adjustment.
These trousers were such an instant wardrobe hit that I made a black linen pair a couple of weeks later. I didn’t have quite enough fabric for these so they are slightly shorter than the navy pair and the hem is very narrow. I also did the addition of the patch pocket, as I really liked that on the first pair.
I made no alterations to the pattern (apart from the later addition of the patch pocket) and I think they are a pretty good fit. Next time I might add a couple of darts in the back to help the bunching of fabric that I get at the top of my bum, but this hasn’t bothered me enough to change it for the first 2 pairs. I have worn both these pairs a lot since I made them and they have been invaluable through the hot summer we have had here. They are comfy but look smart enough for work, which has kept me sane in a stuffy office.
I’m really enjoying sewing up some of the Elizabeth Suzann patterns, I can’t wait for more styles to be released as I love the aesthetic and the wearability of the garments.
